Levi at 28 weeks...

Every week I look forward to receiving my babycenter email telling me the progress the baby is making as he grows. This week officially starts my third trimester! Here's what Levi is up to this week...

Your pregnancy: 28 weeks

How your baby's growing:By this week, your baby weighs two and a quarter pounds (like a Chinese cabbage) and measures 14.8 inches from the top of her head to her heels. She can blink her eyes, which now sport lashes. With her eyesight developing, she may be able to see the light that filters in through your womb. She's also developing billions of neurons in her brain and adding more body fat in preparation for life in the outside world.

Nursery planning

When we found out we were pregnant, I think my first thought (after I picked myself up off the ground and stopped shaking) was how to decorate the nursery. I knew what I wanted to do if it was a girl...make it super-girly with a white round crib, a chandelier and pink and brown bedding. But, I wasn't so sure what to do if it was a boy. Eventually I decided to rebel against the traditional baby blue with teddy bears (to my grandmother's dismay) and go with a log cabin theme with hunting and fishing accents. My grandma is making all of the bedding and window coverings (fortunately she has come around is now accepting the fact that today's modern nursery does not necessarily = blue or pink + circus animals and/or teddy bears. She came into town last week and we have spent the entire week traveling around Dallas going to every fabric store in the metroplex! I posted some pictures above of some of the fabrics we have picked out... Today we went into a store called the Cat and the Fiddle in Plano(recommended to me by my sister in law). They have a log cabin room that I am getting my inspiration from. Here's the picture from the website...

Appointment with the specialist

At our last sono appointment, the sonographer saw a little fluid in Levi's kidneys so she referred us to a perinatal specialist. She said it was really common and nothing to worry about, but Johnny and I prayed about it everyday until our appointment on Tuesday with the specialist. Well, it looks like our prayers paid off! Dr. Peters said that Levi looked really healthy and there's only a 3% chance that we would have to do anything about his kidneys. He also weighs about 2 lbs. 14 oz. right now!

Sonogram pic

Here is our latest sonogram picture taken at about 24 weeks.  Just in case you can't tell, the head is at the top right.  It's so amazing how you can see is little nose and eyes and lips.  Pretty incredible.  I don't know about you, but I definitely see a resemblance between Levi and his daddy :-)

registering!

On Saturday, Johnny and I finally braved Babies R Us for the first time.  We eagerly walked in amongst the throngs of pregnant women and were kindly greeted by the lady behind the registry desk who asked us some simple questions and then gave us "the gun".  We both just kind of stood there in awe for a few seconds, our eyes moving slowly from section to section taking it all in.  After we snapped out of our daze we saw the bottle section.  I thought to myself, "Ok, we can do this, it's just a bottle right? How hard can that be?"  Well, apparently not as easy as one would think.  There were about 50 different brands of bottles and then within each brand there were about 100 different types. (Ok maybe I'm exaggerating a teeny bit but it may of well have been).  After about 30 minutes of deliberation we finally chose a few different types that looked good.  About 3 1/2 hours later we had scanned pretty much everything in the store and had become acquainted with everything from bottles to breast pumps.  It's hard to believe that a little 7-8 pound baby could need so much "equipment."  As we went down each aisle scanning item after item, I began to think about how different our life is going to be after Levi is born.  Our house will be filled with playpens, toys and bottles and the sounds of a crying newborn.  As scary as this may be starting this new adventure, I can't wait to see his sweet little face and hold him in my arms for the first time.  I think he is going to look like his daddy...
